Unrefined batana oil, pressed from the nut of the American oil palm (Elaeis oleifera) and used for generations by the Miskito people of Honduras’ Mosquito Coast. Nothing is added and nothing is stripped out, which is why it arrives deep amber and smells faintly of roasted nuts.

Before you start — this oil sets solid
Raw batana turns to a firm paste below about 80°F (27°C). This is normal and is a sign it hasn’t been refined. Stand the container in warm water or in direct sun for a few minutes to liquefy it. Do not microwave it.
How to use
- Warm until liquid, then work a small amount into the scalp and along the lengths.
- Leave for an hour or overnight, then shampoo out.
- Also usable as a body or cuticle oil on dry patches.
- A little goes a long way — start with less than you think.
